autumn in new york

A friend of mine in Iceland posted this song on Facebook yesterday so I was
able to enjoy it with my morning coffee. What a wonderful way to start the day!

expensive taste

My daughters' school starts this week and while they are happy with their yellow and pink pencils my mind is set on something else, Conway Stewart. Yeah, I know, I'm hopeless, but a girl can dream, right?

These are from The Drake Vermeil Collection:

This one is from The Maki-e Collection and, unfortunately, is sold out a long time ago:

imaginary trip to paris

I'd love to go to Paris soon. There are so many places, small shops, and cafes to visit and on my list is a shop called Boutique Bird on the Wire. I think it's a heaven for people interested in pretty things and I see myself spending hours in it. Luckily they have an online shop!

the perfect notebook

I need a new notebook for my recipes. The pages of my current one have started
to fall out. A friend of mine sent me the link to Noble Macmillan's 'Personlised
Notebooks', which I've fallen in love with. They are just so stylish. Now, I just have
to decide which colour to buy.

feeling romantic

Autumn is near and I'm feeling romantic, reading Jane Austen with a cup of tea and homemade treats.

Selina Lake captures my mood in this beautiful image.

And the flowery blouse, which Keira Knightly wore in Atonement (2007), does so too. (If you haven't read the novel by Ian McEwan, I recommend you do.)

iittala fetish

For years I've been admiring iittala dinnerware and other pieces. It's almost as if I've an iittala Maribowl radar; I can enter a shop and practically sense whether it offers Maribowls or not. I'm quite certain that dessert tastes better in one!

If you ever find yourself on the Strøget in Copenhagen, Illums Bolighus is a heaven for iittala lovers (and here you can find a list of others). Here's a selection from my wish list:

an apple green Kastehelmi bowl

Viitrini glass boxes, with or without oak

Maribowls in various colours

be yourself

Recently, Calvin Klein said in an interview, "You know, since I’m no longer involved in the fashion business, I’m so happy to not pay attention to trends because they are meaningless anyway. They are over fast."

Those words made me think of The Sartorialist. His fashion blog, one of the finest out there, has an 'on the street' section: beautiful images of people all over the world and what they are wearing. It's one of my favourites.

You can continue browsing through the glossy fashion magazines but, ultimately, just be yourself, mix it up, and wear what you like!

chic & feminine

Julia Roberts is wearing a vintage Indian silk dress from Keni Valenti Retro-Couture
for the September cover shoot of ELLE.

I cannot get enough of the sleeves.

by Ti Mo's autumn 2010 collection is so romantic. The sleeves of this flowery dress and
that cardigan create a sensational look. (Am I the only one to notice the stunning
piece of furniture in the background?)

Ralph Lauren's autumn 2010 collection is absolutely fantastic. New York Magazine
offers a slide show with the entire collection.

Look at that blouse!

I saw that desk while shopping the other day and it has my hubby's name written all over it.

The line is called 'voyage' and is available at Maisons du Monde.

doré & demi

Garance Doré is one of my favourite bloggers, who happens to blog in both English and French. Her blog is all about fashion and her photos of women of all ages and races are simply gorgeous. In addition, she draws beautifully.

I fell in love with the Demi Moore portrait she did for ELLE Magazine UK.

Speaking of Demi Moore. I like it when celebrities use their fame to draw attention to serious issues and support a good cause. Last January, Moore and her husband Ashton Kutcher established DNA - The Demi and Ashton Foundation, which mission it is to eliminate sex slavery worldwide. You can follow {DNA} on both Facebook and Twitter.
